Sound retunes us in subtle but powerful ways
We may choose to listen to music to boost our energy and soothe our hearts, but it can also get on our nerves. That’s because we experience the vibrations at all levels of our being.
Science has shown that everything in the universe is made up of vibrating particles — including us.
Although we may think of ourselves as flesh, blood and bone, we are primarily energy beings. Rudolph Steiner likened the body to an orchestra with organs and body parts vibrating at different resonances.
When we are are out of balance, our healthy flow is disrupted and we experience a malaise of one kind or another, or dis-ease.
As sound healers, we offer the frequency of pure tones in our voices and healing instruments with our highest intention to retune the vibration and resonances in another person’s energy field. This is through a process called entrainment.
The harmonics inherent in these healing frequencies provide a natural order which can help to restore balance and harmony in our physiological processes and our mental and emotional wellbeing.
Healing vibrations take us into a state of deep relaxation. Our brainwaves and breathing slow down, and our heart rate and nervous system are regulated. What has been uncomfortably held begins to be released. As the energy shifts, the conditions are created for positive changes and self-healing to occur.
We are blessed with a unique healing instrument of our own: our voice
Audible breathing, sighing, humming and vocal sounding stimulate our vagus nerve. Also known as the ‘wandering’ nerve, it connects our brain to our digestive system via our throat, lungs and heart and is a key component of the parasympathetic ‘rest-and-digest’ branch of our nervous system.
So using our voice helps us to counteract the negative effects of stress. improving our mood and resilience. Connecting with and strengthening our natural voice can be very empowering in other ways.
